CALDERDALE MBC STREET CLEANSING.
Calderdale is comprised of a group of formerly industrial townships situated in a highly scenic part of West Yorkshire, an area of deep winding, urbanised valleys and bleak pennine uplands and hilltop communities.
Calderdale MBC is administered from Halifax and its jurisdiction covers the towns of Brighouse, Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Royd and Todmorden along with a host of smaller townships. The contract for cleaning all these places is currently held by the councils Leisure Services Department, who administer it from Wellesley Park, Halifax.
The team tasked with cleaning Calderdales streets is a quite small and closely knit organisation. The cleaning contract runs for 364 days a year and only on Christmas Day is there no service available. A vehicle remains on standby 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Skeleton services also operate on weekends and public holidays.
Street Cleansing is essentially responsible for emptying public litter bins, removing litter and detritus from the streets of Calderdale, sweeping channels, emptying gullies, clearing up fly tips beds and problem areas, removing dead animals, clearing up after road traffic accidents and sanding over oil spillages. It is not, as many members of the public tend to imagine, in the business of trade and domestic refuse collection!
