Notes - Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist was written as a bet. We were watching the fall of the Berlin Wall on TV, and my friend Trevor suggested I write a song about it. He wagered that if I wrote him a song he'd invite us to a meal. Me being never a one to forego a free lunch, I duly obliged. Song written. Dodgy German. Food eaten.

But it died a death thereafter, as I had given it a somewhat pretentious and decidedly nondescript tune. It quickly found its way into my song archive, where it gathered dust.

Zeitgeists fortunes rose again when I was researching tracks for 'Squashed Hedgehogs'. Rediscovering the lyrics, I revamped it, with a catchier more coherent tune. The result was more pleasing and I recorded it. I have since been somewhat well satisfied, despite terrifying assertions that it sounds like Cliff Richard. Ah well! You can't win 'em all!
